I used to live in Japan, but otherwise being Asian rice is my staple diet so I’m very particular of it. I eat short grain and prefer genmai/ brown for it’s nutrional benefits and have tried a couple of brands from shops like Holland & Barrett and Nourish (which take ages to cook), so I find this 20 min quick one to be a real time saver. I soak it for a couple of hours and it comes out perfect after just 20 mins simmering and then leaving to stand and steam with the lid on for about 10 mins. Great taste, tastes just like what I used to eat in Japan so overall pleased. Fast delivery as well.

    tasty brown rice.

for me personally only using 1 cup of water per cup of rice wasn’t enough, maybe because I was only cooking 1 cup of rice.

I added 2 more cups to it and the rice was nice and squishy and sticky (my preference)

I’m sure with less water it would be less sticky.

  3. Benihana

This is the brown rice of my choice. It cooks like white rice and does not require soaking.

  4. JY

Nishiki is my favorite brand of rice. This quick cook brown rice needs to be soaked for 15-20 minutes before cooking, according to the directions, but it is delicious.

I’ve tried 1 or 2 other brands of short grain brown rice, but this one cooks much quicker and is much less expensive. Normally I put the rice in the rice cooker (a small Zojirushi) on the Brown rice settings, which takes about 1.5 hours to cook. This one you just need to soak for 20 mins, and then press the button for White (Sushi) rice. You’ll have great rice in 40mins!

When cooked properly, it is not mushy and you can see the grains. I haven’t used it for making sushi, and although it’s not as sticky as white rice, I think it would be perfectly fine for that too.

    Will order again.

My hubby loves this rice. He has always complained if I bought regular store brand brown rice. He hated it.
Not anymore! THANKS to Nishiki Quick Cooking Brown Rice. It’s partially milled meaning it still has the brown rice fiber and nutrition. It just has to be soakedbf9t 20 minutes and then cooked for 25. Jim cooks it and is always looking for reasons we need to have rice with dinner. We will always be eating Nishiki Brown Rice.

It is good brown rice. It is not hard to chew after following the cooking instruction.

not much to say, awsome rice at this price with the health benefits of brown rice. I love this rice and use it a couple times a week and have not looked back. Will get more!

  10. Dadbeh

I love the taste of nishiki rice, and the brown rice tastes great, and unlike other brands cooks as fast as white rice.

for brown rice, this stuff is really pale. almost white. and maybe the “brown rice” setting on my rice cooker cooks for longer than this rice really needs, but the result is exactly like sticky (white) rice? i like the taste n texture. not really concerned about the health benefit. just wonder what’s going on?

  12. Amazon Customer

Makes great fried rice! Texture is great too!

  13. Cristen

This is brown rice, but you’ll only have to soak it for 20 minutes before you put it in the rice cooker, and it still comes out nice! It’s a win-win!
